Much like vasectomies, circumcision is a procedure well suited to being provided in the community. However, unlike vasectomy, has only been provided in hospitals in Ireland under general anaesthetic. There are waiting lists of up to 3 years in Ireland to get this procedure done and it can also be costly, so there was clearly an opportunity to take some of the workload away from hospitals while helping to alleviate waiting lists.
Both Dr. McMahon and Dr.Kerin were approached by Dr. Neil Pollock and offered the opportunity to train and provide this service, which they each grasped the opportunity with both hands.
