Adult Circumcision Clinics for Men
Adult men come to our specialized circumcision clinics located in Dublin, Limerick & Cork from across Ireland and beyond to get the benefit of virtually painless Pollock Technique™ or Shang Ring circumcision, performed under local anaesthesia.
Adult circumcision is performed on-site at the Gentle Procedures Clinic locations in Dublin, Limerick & Cork for men aged 16 and over.
No hospital visit or doctor’s referral is required, and all procedures are done under local anaesthesia only.
With our combination of local anaesthetic, our quick surgical technique, and our use of skin glue (with the Pollock method), we provide what may be the most comfortable adult circumcision procedure available anywhere in the world.
Skin glue closure generally eliminates the need for stitches, increasing comfort, speeding healing, and offering good cosmetic circumcision results.
Gentle Procedures is the only certified provider of Pollock Technique™ and proud to be among the first circumcision clinics to offer Shang Ring circumcision in Ireland.
Adult circumcisions performed at our circumcision clinics are paid for directly by the patient.
You can consult with your private health insurer to determine if any coverage may be available in your case, if you have a private health plan.
If you would like more detail on adult circumcision costs, please use the Circumcision Cost Confirmation form to send us your inquiry and we will reply fast with the detail you require.
Circumcision pricing varies by age, with lower cost for infant and baby procedures and a higher fixed price for young men (16 and up) and adults that reflects the increased complexity of circumcision at an older age.
Procedures for all ages are performed under local anaesthetic in our clinics. No hospital visit is required.
Getting Circumcised at Your Age
There are a number of reasons why men may choose to get circumcised at an adult age. Some require circumcision as a cure for conditions like phimosis (an overly tight foreskin) while others choose circumcision for cosmetic and personal reasons.
We are often asked; “Am I too old to get circumcised?” and the answer is pretty much always “no”. Men and youth aged 16 and up have the surgery in our adult circumcision clinics. You can also find additional information regarding circumcision for babies on a dedicated page on this website.
The most common age range for adult circumcision is 18 – 40 years old. The medical team at Gentle Procedures Clinics in Limerick, Dublin & Cork are experts at circumcising men of all ages, and we have collectively performed many tens of thousands of circumcision procedures in our affiliated clinics in Ireland, Australia, the UK and Canada. Gentle Procedures Ireland offers adult circumcision for men aged 16 and up.

Appointments are generally available within a short time and no referral is required. Our experienced circumcision doctors specializes in circumcision for men of all ages.
The Adult Circumcision Procedure – Two Methods
We perform two methods of circumcision at our clinics in Dublin, Limerick & Cork – mogen clamp circumcision using the Pollock Technique™and Shang Ring circumcision. Both provide equally good cosmetic results.
With either method, you will receive detailed written instructions for post-surgery care as well as consult one-on-one with the doctor. Healing times are relatively the same.
Our doctor will consult with you to determine which procedure will be best for you.
Our team is available after surgery as required to answer your questions and to react quickly should there ever be any problems.
Adult Circumcision with the Pollock Technique™
This method uses a combination of local anesthetic and quick surgical technique, with the mogen clamp and use of skin glue.
With the skin glue closure method, we have been able to obtain improved cosmetic outcomes without suture track marks in the mucosa and skin.
In addition, glue closure is faster than sutures.
Adult circumcision procedures with the Pollock Technique™ can offer good results with limited discomfort.
For more information, or to schedule to speak with our doctor, please contact us today at our Dublin, Limerick & Cork circumcision clinics. Appointments are generally available soon and no referral is required.
Shang Ring is a quick, virtually painless and bloodless procedure also providing a sutureless circumcision without track marks.
This method was developed in China through the backing of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Our doctor has trained in this technique and Gentle Procedures is one of the first clinics to offer Shang Ring circumcision in Ireland.
Conveniently, dressing changes are not needed with the Shang Ring – and no skin glue is required.
The Shang Ring consists of two concentric medical grade plastic rings: an inner ring with a silicone band and an outer, hinged ring that acts as a ligature.
The Shang Ring is removed after one week.
The advantages of the Shang Ring procedure may be benefits in your case, or our doctor may recommend Pollock Technique™ circumcision. In either case your procedure will be performed by an experienced doctor with a close follow-up post procedure.
Before Adult Circumcision with Gentle Procedures
The morning of your circumcision we recommend that you avoid coffee and other caffeinated beverages or stimulants. It is best if you are both physically and mentally calm. Bring your headphones and listen to your favourite relaxing music on your phone or other small music player during the surgery.
Take it easy the night before
Do your best to have a good sleep the night before and follow your normal breakfast routine (except for minimizing coffee) so that you will feel your normal self. Some patients find it stressful to skip coffee and if you are one of those people who really need their coffee in the morning maybe just have one cup.
The goal is to minimize your stress, so have a cup of coffee if skipping it is will cause distress. We recommend that the patient have someone come with them to drive them home as well.
The procedure itself will take about 15 – 30 minutes once the penis has been anaesthetized.
You will be kept for observation for an hour after surgery.
Our circumcision doctor will evaluate your case and determine which adult circumcision method is best. Both of our techniques can deliver a good result, and the decision will be made based on our physician’s experience and professional judgement.
Some patients have a preference, but given that the end result is the same, the recommended approach is to let the doctor decide the circumcision technique most applicable to your procedure.
After your first week of taking it really easy you may resume regular activities as long as you are pain free, including sports or going to the gym. You should avoid any activity that puts pressure on the penis or scrotum for at least 3 weeks (biking etc.). No contact sports for 6 – 8 weeks.
Most adult circumcision patients find that there is minimal pain post operatively. Expect some mild discomfort after your procedure for a couple days just like with any surgery, after which there may be some discomfort during the first 2 weeks with nocturnal erections but they are generally mild and relieved with paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Your penis may swell in the first 2 days. It is generally not very painful, and over-the-counter pain relievers are all you usually need.
You will have a dressing over the head of your penis. Please follow the doctor’s directions about when to remove it. Wear snug fitting underwear that will hold the penis upright. This will help the swelling go down.
You can return to work and your normal routine when you feel ready to. Some men return to sedentary work as soon as 2 – 3 days after circumcision. You will need to wait longer before returning to physical work.
A detailed care sheet will be provided with specific instructions to follow after your operation. The information on this page gives you a general idea about how long it will take for you to recover, but each person recovers at a different pace. Follow the care instructions to heal as fast as possible.
Our doctor will address your specific case and your detailed questions.
Post-Operative Instructions for Adult Circumcision
Pollock Technique™ (Mogen clamp) Procedures Only
You will need to stay the night within 45 minutes of the clinic the night of your procedure and you will leave the bandage in place until your first review appointment.
We will review and redress the penis one to two days after the procedure.
For two weeks after your procedure, you need to apply the dressing yourself once a day. You will receive detailed instructions on how to apply the dressings at the time of your first dressing change on day 2. It would be ideal to have someone accompany you to this appointment on day 2 to help you with the dressings for the first few days, although this is not essential.
You may shower the next day if your penis is covered with plastic or a waterproof covering unless a physician indicates otherwise. Make sure the harsh stream of the shower does not hit your penis. You may take a regular shower after one week. You may take a bath after eight days.
Five to seven days after your circumcision, you will return to the clinic for another follow up, and as needed afterwards.
Shang Ring Procedures Only
You can go home the day of your Shang Ring procedure.
The Shang Ring remains in place for 7-10 days with some dry gauze placed on top to protect the glans.
You will be given an appointment on the day of your surgery to come back to the clinic to have the ring removed.
You can shower normally and dry the penis gently afterwards.
When the Shang Ring is removed during your follow up appointment, you will be given instructions on how to clean and dress the wound daily. You will be given dressings and cleaning solution on the day and you will need to do this for a further 3-4 weeks.
Post Circumcision Activity & Care
Rest when you feel tired. Getting enough sleep will help you recover fast. You may shower when you no longer have a bandage on your penis. Pat the cut (incision) dry. You may also take short baths if you wish.
Avoid strenuous activities, such as bicycle riding, jogging, weight lifting, or aerobic exercise, for 4 weeks or until your doctor says it is okay. You can return to work and normal activities, including driving, when you are comfortable doing them.
What to eat after circumcision as an adult
You can eat your normal diet. If your stomach is upset, try bland, low-fat foods like plain rice, broiled chicken, toast, and yogurt. Drink plenty of fluids (unless your doctor tells you not to). There is no medical reason to change from your usual meals in the days after getting circumcised. You will likely prefer to eat at home at least for the first day or two to maximize your comfort.
Remove any dressing when your doctor says it is okay. Wear underwear that is comfortable for you. After the first few days, some men continue to prefer a snug fit for support, while others prefer loose-fitting briefs. Do what feels best for you.
Ice and elevation
Put ice or a cold pack on your groin for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. Try to do this every 1 to 2 hours for the first day. Put a thin cloth between the ice and your skin. Position your penis so that your underwear keeps it upright.
Sex After Circumcision
Do not have intercourse or masturbate for 6 weeks, or until your doctor says it is okay. An occasional erection is not harmful as long as you leave it alone. Do not stimulate the penis.
Medications After Adult Circumcision
Your doctor will tell you if and when you can restart your medications. He will also give you instructions about taking any new medications.
If you take blood thinners, or aspirin, be sure to talk to your doctor for advice on when to start taking those medications again. Make sure that you understand exactly what your doctor wants you to do in order to minimize the risk of any unexpected interactions.
Take pain medications exactly as directed. If the doctor gave you a prescription medication for pain, take it as prescribed. If you are not taking a prescription pain medication, ask your doctor if you can take an over-the-counter medication.
Do not take two or more pain medications at the same time unless the doctor told you to.
If you think your pain medicine is making you sick to your stomach:
Take your medicine after meals (unless your doctor has told you not to).
